Hi! I am back on the job, chronicling travel for your future planning. Maybe Milwaukee isn’t on a bucket list, but you might find yourself there, on purpose or by chance, and I want to make sure you have something fun to visit. This is an account, mostly pictures, of a place I just discovered, literally, right in my backyard! (PS Even if you wouldn’t go to Milwaukee, I think you’ll like the pictures.)

About jetsytravels
I travel a lot and want to travel even more. I really enjoy it! I have no travel expertise or special knowledge. I do have opinions, observations, impressions and photographs to share. If I am not particularly edifying - perhaps I will be entertaining! Who am I? I have an MBA and founded a catalog business about 17 years ago, called Isla, now also online as IslaOnline.com. I am a wife, and mother of two grown (nearly) sons. I split my residential time between Puerto Rico and Wisconsin. One response »

Betsy,
We’ve been thinking about you and how you’re faring during this time when Americans are personae non gratae in much of the world. We’re up at our place in Door County right now, but other beautiful spots in the Milwaukee area include the Arboretum which is right next to Riverside Park and the Urban Ecology Center. It’s an oak savanna along the Milwaukee River and is absolutely gorgeous in all seasons. We’ve been trying to get out there every 2 weeks or so to follow the changing wildflowers. It was actually the centennial project for my Rotary Club in 2013 (we gave some seed money, but it was a great example of private-public cooperation to turn former industrial wasteland into a naturalist’s wonderland).
And north of Milwaukee is Lion’s Den Gorge, which is also quite beautiful. I’ll send you some pictures of both of these.
Hope you’re all doing well and staying safe,
Maja
